A Life of Surrender

from $20.00

I’ve always admired religious sisters, their joyous natures, and their devotion to God. “A Life of Surrender”, a title chosen because the life of a religious sister is one of total surrender. Where the sister dies to herself and lives for Christ. Just as Mother Mary responded to the angel saying “May it be done to me according to your word,” a woman called to religious life echoes this call of surrender and gives everything to God. In this hand we see devotion, prayer, and the toils of a life given in love.

The rosary is the other important object within this painting, and it points towards the role that Mary, the Mother of God has in the Catholic Faith. As Catholics, we pray the Rosary asking for the intercession of our Blessed Mother. This means that we are asking her to pray for us to her Son so He will grant us the prayers we request. This devotion was given to us by the Virgin Mary who asked us to pray it often. This painting captures a life lived in faith of that truth. As one observes the sister holding the rosary in prayer, one notices the details on her hand revealing years of perseverance.
